A Brief History of a Beautiful Automobile
This 911 T Targa has been in single-family ownership since 1969, when it was picked up by my father at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. It is a lovingly cared-for "survivor" intact with its original engine, and original Light Ivory paintwork. Every effort has been made during its recent restoration and mechanical recommissioning to keep the look, feel, and parts original. The restorative work undertaken by Porsche specialists Stuttgart Service in Williamsburg, VA involved a $40,000+ multiphase service and overhaul, including: replacing the original fuel tank with a factory OEM unit; replacing the fuel sock and fuel pump and fuel hose; rebuilding and adjusting the Zenith carburetors with an OEM kit; new spark plugs; updating the timing chain tensioner (replacing original spring mechanism with hydraulic mechanism); refitting the blower belt; replacing the air cleaner; replacing the ignition points; factory clutch cable adjustments; shifter bushing replacements where needed; exercising the calipers and pressure-bleeding the brake hydraulic system; repairs to hand throttle and throttle coupling; a rebuild of the shifter assembly and rear shifter coupler; muffler reassembly; new decklid trim molding; extensive electrical work; new period-correct 185/70VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires; and custom detailing. Per the original “Automobil-Bestellung,” the Targa was ordered with the following factory-installed options: a 5-speed transmission (manual); US specifications (C-02); outside right mirror (261); rear apron (427); antenna, speaker, stereo kit (440); and comfort group (470). In the 1970s, fog lights were added, and the bumper was changed to a 911 S bumper for a sportier appearance; both remain with the vehicle. The interior is in near-fine shape, with the original leather seats in wonderful condition. The leather dashboard was topped with a custom-fitted leatherette cover in the 80s; this was left "as is" during the restoration. A large variety of service records and Porsche-branded ephemera are included with the vehicle. |
